Do you charge for Shipping?
Yes. Shipping costs are based on your location. If you plan on ordering multiple doors, please contact us and we can often get you an customized shipping quote.
How are the doors shipped?
We typically use FedEx Freight when we can't do a delivery. We also use Uship and have a network of drivers who deliver in their trailers or vans. This helps us keep shipping costs as low as possible.
Do you deliver locally?
Yes. If you are located within 100 miles of Preservation Co., please contact us directly for a delivery quote.
Do you ship internationally?
No. Unfortunately, at this time, we can only ship domestically in the contiguous United States.
Will your doors fit standard size door frames?
Our reclaimed doors are found in a variety of different heights and widths. In many cases, antique 19th century European doors will need to be slightly adjusted to fit most standard size openings. If you are in the building phase and you have a rough opening, we can normally adjust the door to fit the opening.
Do your doors come pre-hung or can you build a frame for them?
Our doors do not come prehung. If your builder is unable to build a frame/jamb for the doors, we can build a frame for your door or doors for an additional fee.
Can you customize a door to my dimensions?
Yes. In many cases we can get a door cut down either by height, width or both to get to the necessary measurements. In some instances, a door cannot be trimmed to the desirable length, in which case we can attempt to source a similar door that would be customizable to your required size.
Can you switch out glass or mirrored glass in a door?
Yes. In most cases, we can swap out glass panes to a style of your choosing. We offer a variety of glass styles, including textured, tempered and standard options to meet our customer's desired look.
Do you install doors?
We do not install doors. We can however customize your purchased door and prep it for your builder or contractor to frame or install hinges on site. This will allow for a more seamless installation by your builder or contractor. Framing is also available as an upgrade per custom order. We also highly recommend hiring a local contractor or experienced handyman for door installation and framing (if needed).
I have a wide opening and I don't see a set of doors on your site that fill fit my space, do you have wider doors available in store?
We often do have some wider options in store, but we also often find two matching single doors that can act as two larger french doors. We also have the ability to join two pairs of doors together to make one large door. (This application is best used for doors going on barn door tracks)
I plan on installing doors on a barn door track but I don't see the size i need for my rough opening? The doors you have available are either too tall or too short.
Doors being hung on a barn door track can often exceed the width and height of the opening. The barn door track can be mounted slightly higher or lower depending on the height of the door/doors you're interested in. We can join multiple doors together to create a door to fit your opening.
If I find a door to replace an existing door in my home, will everything fit in place.
Unfortunately, you will most likely have to replace and route new hinges in order to replace an existing door with with a door purchased from us. We recommend hiring a local contractor or handyman who can assist in measuring and installing new hinges that will match the existing frame for installation.
Do you strip doors?
In some cases we can fully strip or sand a door down to raw wood. We unfortunately don't offer stripping of stained doors and will sand painted doors on a case by case basis. Prices vary depending on the door.
Can you apply a stain or polyurethane to a door?
We typically just offer sealing our doors with polyurethane but we can stain certain doors upon request. We do highly recommend the doors be stained on site to better ensure your stain/color preference.
Can you re-hinge a door?
You can choose to keep the original antique hinges or select new hinges that we can install as part of a custom order buy we strongly recommend routing for new hinges as they tend to perform better than antique hinges.
What hardware options are available?
We have a selection of antique and cast iron hardware. Some of our collection is available to browse online but we have more options in our storefront in Huntsville.
IMPORTANT: Due to the fragile nature of some glass in our doors, we are unable to ship certain doors with large glass panes installed without customer approval. If you find a door you are interested in purchasing and want us to ship it with the glass, we will be glad to do so upon request but are unable to guarantee the integrity of the glass during shipment. Contact us if you have questions about a certain door or glass.
In most cases, the installation will be very simple. Many of our doors have a slot at the top of the door that the glass slides into. You or your contractor will measure the length and width of the area for glass and order from your local glass company. Once you receive your glass, you simple slide it into the top of the door. In some rare cases, you or a trim carpenter will have to remove the trim to install the glass.
Yes, we will ship your door if you order textured or tempered glass after purchase and will install it securely to ensure it makes it to you without breaking. In the unlikely event the glass breaks during shipment, we will issue a refund for the cost of the glass.
