Commission a Piece
Tell us about your opening, your aesthetic, and your timeline. Our carpenters will draft a plan, source the right reclaimed slab, and restore it to your dimensions — built to last another century.

Our Story
Preservation Company is the work of Jason and Christa Butler — a husband-and-wife team whose shared love of architecture, historic preservation, and timeless design became a lifelong project. Jason brings twenty years of homebuilding and historic restoration to the bench.
In 2016, we purchased the 1927 Lincoln Commissary building in downtown Huntsville and spent a year restoring it ourselves. We opened the doors in November 2017. A few months later, the restoration earned Downtown Huntsville’s Project of the Year.
What started as a curated collection of reclaimed doors now spans architectural salvage, furniture, hardware, art, and the small objects that make a house feel like it has always been there. Every piece passes through the hands of our carpenters before it reaches yours.

Come See It in Person
A photograph can only show you so much. Come stand with the pieces — run your hand along a century-old door, weigh the iron in a salvaged sconce, catch the scent of oiled walnut. Our showroom, set inside the restored 1927 Lincoln Commissary, is open most days of the week and always worth the drive.

Best architectural salvage shop in the Southeast, full stop. Christa and Jason actually know the story behind every piece — and the doors are restored beautifully without losing the patina.

We furnished an entire 1920s renovation with pieces from Preservation Co. Beam mantels, iron grates, two pairs of glass doors. Everything fit. Everything was finished perfectly.

I'm a contractor, and this is now my first stop on every old-house remodel. Inventory turns over fast — if you see something you like, buy it. The custom door commission was a great experience too.

The showroom alone is worth a Saturday afternoon. We came in looking for a single door and left with a coffee table built from a 1900s factory beam. No regrets.

Asked them to refinish a door we'd already bought elsewhere — they took it on, sanded it down, restored the hardware, and made it look brand new. Pricing was honest and they kept us posted the whole way.

Our designer recommended Preservation Co and now I see why. The pieces feel curated, not just collected. They helped us pick a barn door for our pantry that completely changed the kitchen.

Rare find. Beautiful space, friendly people, and the kind of inventory you used to have to drive three states to find. The custom hardware they made for us was exactly what we asked for.

Communication was perfect from inquiry to install. They sent progress photos as the door was being restored — we knew exactly what we were getting and when. Old-fashioned customer service.

Beautiful inventory and the staff is knowledgeable. Pricing reflects the quality, so go in expecting it. The pair of glass doors we bought are stunning — couldn't have built anything close to it new.

FAQ
Thoughtful answers to the questions we hear most — about custom work, shipping, installation, and the honest imperfections of reclaimed pieces.
Not quite — we are continuously adding new pieces, and many are one-of-a-kind. If you are searching for something specific, call or email us and we will check the floor for you.
Our current lead time is 6–10 weeks. Simpler modifications — a trim to height, a glass swap — typically ship in 2–4 weeks. We will give you a firm window when we confirm your order.
Yes, we ship throughout the contiguous United States, primarily via FedEx Freight with residential liftgate service. Please allow 3–4 weeks for processing. A few remote zip codes require a personalized quote.
Often, yes. We can trim most doors by height, width, or both, and can adjust stiles and rails on glass doors to maintain visual symmetry. When a piece cannot be modified, we will help you source one that fits.
No. Our doors arrive as slabs. We can build a custom jamb for single doors or French pairs, with weather stripping and thresholds available for exterior installations.
In most cases, yes. We stock textured, privacy, and tempered glass, and recommend tempered for exterior doors and large panes.
We offer local delivery quotes for customers within 100 miles of our Huntsville showroom. Larger local orders often qualify for custom delivery pricing.
Yes, and they are the point. Nicks, cracks, and patina are part of how a piece earns the next hundred years in your home. We sand, patch, and seal to preserve character, not erase it.
